Arbetsområden

Birgittas forskningsaktivitet rör främst frågor i livets slutskede och andra kritiska livshändelser där en del har varit avhandlingsarbetet "Att vara nära anhörig i livets slut. Delaktighet i ljuset - delaktighet i mörkret". Avhandlingen beskriver närståendes situation och delaktighet samt utvecklar de i studierna framväxta begreppen till en teori.

Den nuvarande forskningssituationen innebär egen forskning och handledning av doktorander i olika projekt som studerar patientens och närståendes situation, behov, delaktighet och tillfredsställelse inom olika vårdformer som tex. cancervård, palliativ vård, intensiv vård och psykiatrisk vård. Dessutom pågår studier rörande personalens situation, behov och arbetstillfredsställelse inom olika vårdformer samt personalens möte med familjer och samspelet dem emellan. Ytterligare studier pågår där syftet är att analysera och utveckla modeller inom omvårdnad.
