Psychosomatics - body-mind aspects of health and disease
My research is concerned mainly with issues surrounding the theoretical understanding of psychosomatic conditions (mind-body problem) and how the care, treatment and rehabilitation of patients with complicated psychosomatic symptoms and diseases can be improved. Besides writing theoretical books on psychosomatics in English and Swedish, I have participated in a variety of empirical studies using phenomenological methodology. These areas include studies on fibromyalgia, living with long-term pain, moving with persistent pain, body awareness, body-oriented psychotherapy, experience of health and well-being after traumatic spinal cord injury, the aging body and self and supervision intervention for staff within primary health care who meet patients with psychosomatic health problems. Current projects include writing an introductory textbook to teaching communication skills to nurses from a phenomenological perspective (Studentlitteratur) and a larger project to implement and evaluate communication from a phenomenological perspective within a variety of care contexts.
